Hi, my name is Benji. I am a 7 yr old Shih-tzu and weigh about 18 lbs. I was almost 20 lbs. when I came here, but I have been on a diet and losing weight well. I still need to lose a couple more which is making me feel better and move around more easily. As you can see by my pics, I am a very quiet laid back guy. I did have to have my coat shaved down as I was pretty messy and it has now started to grow nicely. I used to have some skin issues as well, but since I have been here, they are almost all cleared up and I am not itchy anymore. I also need to stay on a grain free diet as that is what has helped my skin.
I did have a couple of lumps removed and my teeth cleaned, also a hernia repair. Now I am in tip top shape and ready for my forever home. I am 99% housetrained and I don't mind being on my own for part of the day. I do like to sleep, you just need to take me for a nice walk when you come home. I am pretty good on the leash and don't pull too much. I am great around people and don't bark to often. I do like to have a home that is calm and maybe just one other dog or cat - as long as they don't pester me too much. I am up to date with my vaccines and microchipped as well.
Benji does show some signs of hearing loss, but not quite sure if it is just selective. Benji needs to be groomed every few months to keep his coat in optimum shape. He has the wonderful sad eyes that draw you in to fall for him.
